sourcing mixtures of up to 5 gases in parallel at concentrations well below similar systems.

Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) is a top European research center for Electronics and Software Based Systems (ESBS). The application-oriented center offers cooperative research in the pioneering research areas of Microsystems, Sensor Systems, Intelligent Wireless Systems, Power Electronics and Embedded Systems.

One important activity of Silicon Austria Labs is the development of novel gas sensors. Chemical sensing of gas molecules is essential for monitoring air quality (indoors and outdoors), assessing environmental pollution, ensuring industrial workplace safety, and tracking fitness and health. Despite years of research, developing small, affordable sensors that can accurately identify individual gas types remains a challenge, often due to cross-sensitivity in low-cost devices. Silicon Austria Labs pursues several innovative approaches to overcome the challenges of current state-of-the-art gas sensors.

In order to enable characterizing the responses of the developed gas sensors, Silicon Austria Labs collaborates with DEMCON Convergence to realize a custom-designed gas test stand that allows to source mixtures of up to five different target gases in parallel to the sample chamber at concentrations ranges well below what is usually available by similar systems.

This enables Silicon Austria Labs to demonstrate the high sensitivity to even trace concentrations of target gases that is anticipated for their developed gas sensors. Also, the gas test stand by DEMCON Convergence allows to modify both the temperature and relative humidity in the sample chamber, which enables to verify the performance of gas sensors under realistic environmental conditions both for indoors and outdoors applications.
